ATLVets Partners with Beneath the Service to Empower Women Veterans
ATLVets recently hosted a speaker series featuring Heather McCarty from Beneath the Service, an organization dedicated to leadership development for veterans. The event highlighted the Women Veterans Leadership Program (WVLP), a program designed to empower and connect women veterans.
The Importance of the WVLP
Heather McCarty explained that the WVLP was born out of research that showed women veterans were seeking a sense of belonging and community. The program provides a safe space for women veterans to connect, build confidence, and develop their leadership skills.
Key Objectives of the Program
- Empowerment: The program helps women veterans embrace their identity and recognize their leadership potential.
- Connection: It provides opportunities for women veterans to connect with each other and build a supportive network.
- Skill Building: The program offers training on communication, leadership, and other essential skills.
- Action Planning: Participants develop a plan to apply their skills and lead in their communities or workplaces.
Who is the Program For?
The WVLP is designed for women veterans who are ready to invest in themselves and take action to develop their leadership skills. It is not a job placement program but rather a personal and professional development opportunity.
Collaboration with ATLVets
ATLVets and Beneath the Service are partnering to provide comprehensive support to veterans in the Atlanta area. The WVLp complements ATLVets’ focus on professional development by addressing the unique needs and experiences of women veterans.
Future Successes and Partnerships
Beneath the Service is committed to expanding the WVLP and its alumni program. The organization is actively seeking sponsorships and grants to keep the program free for women veterans. They are also exploring partnerships with organizations like ATLVets to create a strong ecosystem of support for veterans.
Call to Action
The application for the next WVLP cohort is open now and closes on January 31st. Women veterans who are interested in developing their leadership skills and connecting with other women veterans are encouraged to apply.
